3 LEGGED STOOL: ASH - TITLE 3

The concept for my stool has three main parts. The first one being to celebrate the joinery, the most complicated part about building this stool was the join between the legs and the seat. These joints are a combination of three joinery techniques. The legs will take the shape of a dovetail but the actual joint will be a mortise and tenon and this will be reinforced with a wedge into the top of the tenon. The second part of the concept is how I want this joint to be discovered by users. The stool looks fairly simple at a distance but upon closer inspection you will be able to see the intricate angles and pieces that make the legs connect to the seat. The third part to the concept is the overall angular aesthetic of the legs that contrasts the round seat. The overarching concept of my stool stems from the requirement for it to have three legs. The number 3 shows up repeatedly in the design and concept. There are three legs, three joinery techniques, three main goals for the concept, and the taper of the legs starts at 1/3 of the way from the top of the stool. This led to the name of my stool, 3.
