INTERIOR DESIGN

SONATA MUSIC CENTRE: GROUP PROJECT

The proposed building design revolves around the overlapping layers that unfold as one traverses through a series of ramps and cascading, exterior-extruded staircases. This extended statement ramp, combined with the various platforms that level out between steps, transforms into a collaborative space for musicians to sit and play. This element of movement and interaction creates a powerful atmosphere that embraces a communicative music-based relationship.

The centre is divided by different musical terminologies that correlate to the specified acoustics of the programming. The first floor is named Forte meaning loud, as it is an active social space. On this level one will find the Allegro cafe, due to its fast tempo while the bar-lounge is lively and therefore called Vivace. As one proceeds to the second level the programming becomes quieter, Decrescendo, and transitions from casual music sessions to more formal lessons. The third floor called Piano is reserved for private studios and is quiet and soft in acoustics in contrast to the roof which picks up volume once again as the final Crescendo.
